Where is Pantelleria?

Pantelleria is a volcanic island in the Strait of Sicily, 100 km (62 mi) southwest of the main island of Sicily and 70 km (43 mi) east of Tunisia. Due to its strategic location in the center of the Mediterranean Sea between Europe and Africa, Pantelleria has been occupied by many different people throughout history: Phoenicians, Carthaginians, Romans, Vandals, Byzantines, Moors, Normans, Swabians, Angevins, Aragonese, Bourbons, Italians, and briefly during World War II, by Americans.
